Troubleshooting

“Permission denied”

This is generally a Windows error. Be sure to run the application you are installing into as administrator before trying to install GuideGuide.

If you have run Photoshop or Illustrator as administrator and you still receive the error, try deleting the GuideGuide folder or file mentioned in the error message (it is an old version of GuideGuide) and try to install again.

I/O error

The cause of this error on OS X is unknown, but deleting the GuideGuide folder mentioned in the error and reinstalling typically fixes the issue.

ZXP Installation

If you prefer, you can use the .zxp file included in the GuideGuide zip file to install GuideGuide. Do not use the Extension Manager if you are using CC 2015 or later, as Adobe no longer supports it. The ZXPInstaller recommended below uses an Adobe command line tool which tends to be quirky, so use it at your own discretion.

  1. Download and install ZXPInstaller.
  2. Launch ZXPInstaller.
  3. Drag the GuideGuide .zxp file onto ZXPInstaller.
  4. When ZXPInstaller says your installation is complete, GuideGuide has been installed.
  5. Restart your Adobe apps. You will find GuideGuide at Window > Extensions > GuideGuide.

Troubleshooting

The ZXPInstaller is based on an Adobe command line tool and can give some cryptic error messages. If the message says something about a conflict or extension of the same name, open the GuideGuide installation folder, delete the old version of GuideGuide, and try again.

For all other errors, if you have the Extension Manager installed, uninstall it, restart your computer, and try again. If that doesn’t help, please follow the installation script instructions above.

Manual Installation

  1. Download the GuideGuide files from the link in the purchase or update email you received, and unzip them.
  2. Find the GuideGuide folder inside the files/manual-install folder.
  3. Copy the GuideGuide folder into the correct installation folder for your Creative Cloud version.
  4. Restart your Adobe apps. You will find GuideGuide at Window > Extensions > GuideGuide

Troubleshooting

“Signature is invalid” error

This error happens when you modify the contents of the GuideGuide folder. This includes adding and deleting files. There are many things that may cause files to be modified like user error, zip utilities, or Dropbox, it’s usually easiest to delete the installed files and try installing again.

GuideGuide doesn’t show up in Window > Extensions > GuideGuide

Be sure that your installation directory looks like extensions/GuideGuide/<GuideGuide files>. If it does not, GuideGuide will not load.

If you are using 64bit Windows, try using both the 32 and 64 bit installation folders. For an unknown reason, some installations require extensions to be installed in the 32bit installation folder.
