How to Add Guides in InDesign

It’s easy to add guides in InDesign.

1. Enable document rulers in the menubar by going to View > Show Rulers.
2. Click inside the horizontal or vertical ruler, then drag the mouse into your document. You will see a guide appear as you do this.
3. Release the mouse where you want to place the guide.

Note that the type of guide created depends on where you place it. If your mouse is outside of a page when you release it, a spread guide will be created. If you release the guide inside a page, a page guide will be created.
