No Longer Supported: Sketch

TL;DR: I’ve dropped support for Sketch. If you are a paying customer exclusively for the Sketch version of GuideGuide, you are entitled to a refund of your most recent billing period.

It is with mild sadness and great relief that I have to announce the end of GuideGuide for Sketch. In the most recent version of Sketch, they introduced a few new layout concepts and removed artboards. This caused GuideGuide to break, as GuideGuide currently relies on Sketch arboards.

While I set out to fix the issue and keep GuideGuide working, it has been clear for the last few years that the Sketch team has abandonned their the plugin infrastructure. This is easily evidenced by the fact that their recommended toolchain is a third party library that hasn’t been updated in two years, written by a former employee that has been gone even longer. Trying to follow the documentation leads to many instructions that haven’t been valid for years.

I’ll be honest — I gave updating GuideGuide a well intentioned, if half hearted try. The experience was antequated, untennable, and ultimately fruitless. GuideGuide’s Sketch-based userbase is miniscule (typically 0-3 paid/4-6 trial users a day), so the effort involved to keep GuideGuide functioning simply isn’t worth the pain. For this reason, I’m discontinuing the Sketch plugin.

If this affects you, please know that I’m sorry. I wish I could offer you a great tool. However, I’ve got to make good use of my time, and this is sadly not it. If you’ve paid for GuideGuide exclusively for use with Sketch, you’re welcome to request a refund.

To avoid possibly disappointing new customers, GuideGuide is no longer available for download. It will continue to function in older versions of Sketch for the forseeable future. To the handful of you that use(d) it, thanks for your support.
