No Longer Supported: Adobe XD

Jan 3, 2023 | Written byCameron McEfee

TL;DR: I’ve dropped support for Adobe XD. If you are a paying customer exclusively for the Adobe XD version of GuideGuide, you are entitled to a refund of your most recent billing period.

Back in October of 2018, I announced that I’d released a version of GuideGuide for Adobe XD. The app lacked nearly 100% of the APIs I needed to build GuideGuide, but I put together what could be fairly called a hack in hopes that the platform would eventually improve.

Four years later, Adobe XD hasn’t changed in any significant way. I’m preparing to launch the next version of GuideGuide plugins and as I look at where my time is best spent, I don’t think XD is worth the effort. It’s impossible to create a plugin that is a good experience for customers and lives up to what I charge for it.

As a result, I’ve decided to remove the XD version of GuideGuide, effective immediately. Any version currently in use will continue to function normally — if you’re using it, go ahead and continue. However, I’ve removed all download links and there will be no future updates for the XD version of the plugin.

If you pay for GuideGuide and use it exclusively for XD… well frankly, I’d love to talk to you because I don’t know why you’re paying me :grimace_emoji:. But regardless, if you’re in the middle of a billing cycle and you’d like a refund, please let me know.

The future

GuideGuide languished for a few years as a side project while I worked a normal job. At the end of 2021 I left that job to go independent full time, and have spend the last year rewriting GuideGuide and laying the ground work to support more apps and adding a handful of powerful features.
